Past and present coaches
As a young rider I trained with Mary Hanna. For four years I trained in Germany with Kristy Oatley and Karin Rehbein.
Why Dressage?
Initially I started out as an eventer and purchased my current Grand Prix horse to be an eventer. I soon realised that the jumps were becoming too big and ‘Northern Campion’ showed too great a talent for dressage.
What do you look forward to in your dressage day?
When both my horses greet me with a neigh or a knowing look, hoping that they may receive a carrot or a sugar.
What is your highlight or specialty, and what is your secret?
Making good use of the arena, using the corners. Learning this is Germany and it being drummed into my head every day, it just stays with you.
If you could train with anyone in the world who would it be?
Stefen Peters (hopefully longer than three days).
Your proudest dressage moment?
Winning the 2006 Grand Prix at the Australian Dressage Championships.
The most memorable horse you've owned and why?
Northern Campion, ‘Cam’. We have both travelled so far together and have learned so much. Arriving in Germany at medium level and twelve months later doing our first Grand Prix.
The most important thing you have learned?
‘Concentrate!!’
The most important part of your horses routine
Ice after exercise.
Your secret to keeping your horses sound and happy?
Ice after exercise, love and affection.
What do you feed your horses?
Prydes Easi Result and Prydes Easi Performance.
A typical day in your life?
Wake up, go jogging, eat a healthy breakfast, arrive at the stables, ride my two horses and any others I have in training, give lessons, run errands, home.
Your five year plan?
Kentucky with ‘Carlyle’, and London with ‘Carlyle’.

The privilege of training a young horse can be likened to the artist with a blank canvas, it all begins with only brush strokes until an image begins to appear.

Motivation often sounds like a lot of pressure - "I must" or "I should", but really it is about you creating a mindset of "I really want" or "I get to".

When we hope for change or improvement coming from something (or someone) external to us, we set ourselves up for frustration and failure.
