Rozzie Ryan rides at Advanced level
Rozzie Ryan rides Bradgate Park Don Rivera at Advanced level at home
Having represented Australia on a number of occasions, Rozzie Ryan has competed some stand out Grand Prix horses including Excellent, Donna Carrera and her stallion Jive Magic.
Rozzie and hubby Heath have recently moved from the famous NSW Equestrian Centre at Lochinvar, to a more boutique facility (still large by anyones standards really!) called Ryans at Newcastle Equestrian Centre.
In this video, Rozzie trains Bradgate Park Don Rivera (Champ), a 9yo gelding by Don Ramiro. Owned by Kate Gordon, Champ as he is known to his friends, has been with Rozzie for a few months while Kate had time off to have a baby.
Soon to make his Prix St George debut, Champ's work with Rozzie includes flying changes, canter pirouettes and overcoming tension.
The video is split into two parts:
Watch Part One
Work on the frame, staying in front of the leg in downward transitions, trot work including shoulder in and half pass.
"I think of riding as a constant conversation between him and me, and the language of the conversation is feel"
Watch Part Two
Work on the canter with single and tempi changes focussing on straightness, increased collection in canter and working pirouettes, aswell as medium trot and how to deal with distraction and nervousness at a comp and at home.
"If someone knows a miracle quick way then let me know because mostly dressage is tiny steps and progress each day. Think of terms of months and years not days and weeks."
If you don't have very fast internet, you may need to pause the video for several minutes so it can load, then watch.
Feel free to comment on the video and how it relates to your own training, below.

The privilege of training a young horse can be likened to the artist with a blank canvas, it all begins with only brush strokes until an image begins to appear.

Motivation often sounds like a lot of pressure - "I must" or "I should", but really it is about you creating a mindset of "I really want" or "I get to".
